Arc Chair 2.0

Arc Chair 2.0 is a stainless steel rocker that is the reimagination of it’s sister chair Arc Chair, originally fabricated in baltic birch.

Since most of the design details had already been worked out in the first Arc Chair, the focus for Arc Chair 2.0 was honing a new set of skills: welding and metalworking.

Metal Production

Arc Chair 2.0 is made of .25” OD steel tubing. The tubes were bent using a tube bender, before welding using MIG and TIG.

The bottom members of the welded chair frame were forged to round the sharp edges left over from welding, before final assembly of all of the elements.

After the metalworking for Arc Chair 2.0 had been completed, a leather sling seat was added to finish the chair. Different stitch types and sizes were tested for both tensile strength and aesthetic quality before fabrication.

Adding The Seat

Design Goal: fabricate a seat that fits the minimalist aesthetic of the chair’s frame while maintaining comfortability.
