Cocktail
Courier
Fall 2022*
Cocktail Courier is a 2-in-1 apron and tote for wearing and carrying a bartender’s tools. The apron’s pockets are tailored to each barware item, and hold them in place when the apron is folded into a tote and utilized to take your bar on the go.
*Codesigned with Matt Kedzierski
A mood board was created to start to make choices about the apron’s aesthetic and function. The mood board included precedents, such as tool belts, chef’s rolls, and standard aprons. These examples helped to determine the apron’s general shape, colorways, and to develop a list of “need to have’s” and “nice to have’s”.
Ideation & Sketching
Design Goal: Create a multi-functional apron and carrying system for bar tools.
Drawing, and laying out the apron in full scale gave a sense of what tools could fit on the front of the apron. A paper pattern was developed, from this rough mockup, which was later used to cut the final material.
Preliminary Mockups
Mockup Goal: work out placement and pocket size for tool holders to develop a pattern.
The Cocktail Courier has custom pockets for 10 different bar tools that are commonly used by mixologists. The “pockets” (with the exception of one) have open bottoms so that liquid doesn’t get stuck in the apron. The toggle buttons are 3D printed cocktail shakers. The final material is tea-waxed canvas, which is both durable, and water-resistant.
Design Details
Detail Goals: Create a wearable that’s both easy to use, and fun for a bartender to wear.
