Ripple

Spring 2022

Ripple is a 6-piece slip cast ceramic tableware set, inspired by the gorgeous coasts of mid-coast Maine. This handmade and hand-glazed collection includes a mug, a vase, a plate, a small dish, and two sizes of ovular bowls.

The geometry of the ripple collection was to mimic that which exists in nature. The concentric circles, expanding out from one focal point draw the eye towards each piece’s epicenter. Glazes were to be cool hues to mimic the colors found in the ocean.

Design Goal: Create a beautiful, yet functional collection of objects.

Slipcasting is a labor of love! Each piece was sketched, 3D modeled, 3D printed, and sanded before casting. The models were then plaster cast in 2-part moulds, creating negatives to fill with liquid clay. After casting each piece in slip, the objects were demoulded, hand-sanded, and bisque fired, and then glazed and glaze fired for completion.
