Go Bag
Fall 2021
Greenmarket Go Bag is a 4-piece tool kit that helps empower users when navigating the Greenmarkets of New York City. This branded tote contains a personal compost bin, a seasonal fruit and veggie guide, and change purse, all designed to make farmer’s markets more easily accessible for shoppers.
Several visits to the Union Square Greenmarket in NYC highlighted some of the possible points for design intervention. Interacting with both sellers and shoppers helped to define what problems or minor annoyances regularly occurred.
Ideation & Sketch Models
Personal Compost Bin: A small receptacle for an individual to dispose of food waste, to be taken to the farmer’s market each week, and emptied at a compost drop-off location. The bin has magnets in the bottom, which snap into the bag to prevent spillage during travel.
Fruit & Veggie Guide: A detailed list of seasonal offerings found at NYC farmer’s markets. Includes best practice for storage and usage to help prevent waste due to spoilage.
Branded Tote: A graphic tote, showing shoppers the best way to organize their purchased goods, to minimize crushing or damage on the way home.
Using the Go Bag
Detailed instructions were created to help guide users on the best way to get the most out of their Greenmarket Go Bag.
Design Goals: Make the Greenmarket Go Bag easy to use to encourage shoppers to utilize local farmer’s markets over large chain grocery stores whenever possible.
